Job Description

The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) Manager is responsible for the supervision, oversight, and development of the Behavioral Health Specialist team. This position focuses on staff accountability, scheduling, training, performance management, and ensuring that all BHS staff provide quality patient care in accordance with facility policies and expectations. The BHS Manager serves as a visible leader who promotes professionalism, patient engagement, safety, and a therapeutic treatment environment. The BHS Manager is responsible for the supervision, scheduling, training, and development of the BHS team. This position promotes staff accountability, professionalism, patient safety, therapeutic engagement, and compliance with facility policies and procedures.
Full-Time, Salaried Position Pay Scale:
$54,000-$58,000 based on education and experience Responsibilities Staff Management Supervise and monitor BHS staff performance, patient interactions, and assigned duties. Maintain a visible presence throughout the facility. Promote professionalism, accountability, appropriate boundaries, and policy compliance. Provide coaching, feedback, evaluations, and corrective action as needed. Work 1-2 eight-hour shifts per week on the floor as a BHS. Provide BHS coverage when needed due to staffing shortages or call-offs. Scheduling & Attendance Develop and maintain BHS schedules based on census and program needs. Monitor attendance, call-offs, tardiness, and time-off requests. Coordinate staffing coverage and maintain accurate attendance records. Training & Development Coordinate new-hire onboarding and BHS training. Ensure completion of CPI, annual competencies, and required training. Provide ongoing coaching and support to promote effective patient engagement and therapeutic care. Program Oversight Coordinate weekend outings and recreational activities with nursing and clinical leadership. Support consistent use of DBT coaching, 12-step facilitation, and other approved behavioral interventions. Monitor patient engagement and the quality of BHS programming. Communication & Leadership Serve as a communication link between BHS staff, nursing, Site Directors, and clinical leadership. Communicate policies, procedures, and operational updates. Participate in leadership meetings and quality improvement initiatives. Work Expectations Approximately 24-32 hours per week will be dedicated to management and supervisory responsibilities, with remaining hours worked on the floor as a BHS. Maintain visibility and oversight of staff performance, patient safety, engagement, and unit operations. Flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience as a BHS or in a similar behavioral health, psychiatric, substance use, or residential treatment role required. Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Experience with scheduling, staff development, performance management, and conflict resolution preferred.
