Job Description

NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Preoperative Patient Coordinator is responsible for scheduling surgeries and procedures, verifying completion of preoperative testing and collecting necessary medical documentation for surgeries. This individual works closely with patients, physicians and surgical staff to coordinate schedules and serves as liaison between facilities.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND
EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or G.E.D. with 1-2 years of experience in medical office preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
1. Coordinates and schedules surgeries as designated by multiple physicians 2. Ensures efficient telephone communication, promptly returns patient calls and documents outcomes. 3. Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding procedure preparation, time of patients scheduled arrival, special instructions for their procedure and any other directional information needed 4. Ensures accuracy of surgical consent and history & physicals 5. Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed 6. Verifies information being entered into system is correct, i.e. spelling of name, DOB, gender, insurance information, etc. 7. Manages scheduling conflicts or changes and notifies proper staff in a timely manner 8. Allows adequate time for each procedure and leaves enough time between cases for turnover 9. Scans documents and uploads surgery information into
E.H.R. 10.
Interfaces with appropriate vendor staff to ensure all necessary equipment will be on site for surgery or procedure 11. Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol 12. Demonstrates a commitment to adhere to facility policy and guidelines 13. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional and courteous environment 14. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times 15. Provides back up support for the registration staff as needed 16. Assumes other duties and functions as assigned
JOB COMPLEXITY, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Preferred at least one year in a similar healthcare role and knowledge of medical terminology. Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers. Exhibits a high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work. Proficient in computer and relevant software applications.
