Job Description

Position Summary The Coding and Documentation Coordinator monitors financial and operational reports to facilitate the timely and accurate submission of inpatient and outpatient claims in an unbilled or billed status in order to maintain weekly Diagnosis Not Final Bill (DNFB) and Billing Rejections benchmarks. The Coordinator also provides support to the CDI team in query follow-up, clinical validation tracking and the preparation operational reports. Serves as the key contact with the Patient Financial Services Dept as it relates to DNFB accounts. Determines the root cause of the coding, documentation, and billing delays and using the

escalation policy procedure, follows-up with the appropriate business owner to resolve. Primary Position Responsibilities Follows-up daily on accounts that have aged beyond the day from coding and the turnaround time established for billing rejection resolution. Assists in obtaining clinical reports (e.g., Pathology, Scripts) from Clinical Depts/physician offices when not available in the medical record. Maintains an inventory listing of missing data and communicates barriers to resolution to the CDI/Coding Manager. Identifies root causes of delays and associated trends and works with the HIM leadership team and Physician Advisor in the elimination of the root causes of billing delays. Creates a weekly DNFB status report. Assists with the query resolution and reporting procedures Logs and tracks clinical validation audits and outcome Assists with the resolution of HIM and Coding related edits Assists with assigning accounts and providing necessary documentation (e.g., via imaging, faxing) to internal coders and external vendors. Assists with monthly operational reporting Other duties as assigned
