Our Y is seeking a dynamic, team-orientated individual to provide leadership to our Health & Wellness Department
POSITION SUMMARY
The Health & Wellness Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for personal training, small group training, group fitness, and community health staff. This role ensures alignment with the YMCA mission and vision by developing innovative, high-quality, and engaging wellness experiences that foster belonging, improve health outcomes, and strengthen member retention. The Director collaborates with branch leadership to create consistent standards, drive innovation, and support staff development, while ensuring that wellness programs remain inclusive, financially sustainable, and impactful.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, implement, and oversee wellness programs including fitness classes, personal training, wellness center staff, chronic disease prevention, nutrition counseling, and community health initiatives. Lead and manage health and wellness staff, including recruitment, training, development, and performance evaluations. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness using performance metrics, participant feedback, and outcome data; make continuous improvements. Collaborate with community partners, healthcare providers, schools, and other organizations to support health outreach and impact. Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards, organizational policies, and relevant regulations. Manage budgets for health and wellness programs, including revenue forecasting, cost control, and fundraising/grant initiatives. Advocate for health equity and inclusive wellness initiatives that serve diverse populations. Represent the organization at events and serve as a spokesperson for healthy living efforts. Responsible for the hiring, training, supervising, and coaching of staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Working with staff to maintain positive fitness space experiences
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field preferred. 4-6 years of progressive leadership experience in fitness, wellness, or health promotion National certification in personal training and group fitness required. CPR, AED, First Aid, or ability to obtain within 30 days. Demonstrated success in leading teams, creating and delivering fitness or wellness education, and driving member engagement programs. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills with proven ability to coach and inspire staff. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community. Strong knowledge of health behavior change, disease prevention, fitness training, and public health best practices. Demonstrated experience managing staff, programs, and budgets. Proficient in Microsoft Office Software
