Exempt Join Our Team Merrick Academy is seeking an experienced, student-centered Clinical Supervisor to provide clinical leadership to our mental health team while directly supporting the social-emotional needs of students in grades K-8. Reporting to the Director of Special Services & Compliance, the Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical supervision, coaching, and professional development to school-based mental health providers; maintain a student counseling caseload; support crisis intervention; and help strengthen school-wide systems for student wellness and behavioral support. The ideal candidate is an experienced clinician and collaborative leader who can balance direct student services with team supervision and systems-level work. This individual should demonstrate strong clinical judgment, exceptional communication and organizational skills, and the ability to build productive relationships with students, families, staff, and external partners. Key Responsibilities Clinical Supervision & Team Development Provide regular clinical supervision to school social workers and guidance counselors in accordance with applicable professional, ethical, and licensure standards. Conduct weekly individual and group supervision sessions with members of the clinical team. Coach mental health providers on case conceptualization, counseling strategies, crisis response, documentation, family engagement, and other areas of clinical practice. Identify professional development needs and provide targeted training and development to strengthen the clinical team's effectiveness. Facilitate regular case reviews to discuss student caseloads, interventions, progress, challenges, and next steps. Support the Director of Special Services & Compliance in developing consistent clinical practices, procedures, and systems across the school. Monitor required credentials, documentation, and clinical records to ensure compliance with school policies and applicable professional standards. Student Counseling & Clinical Services Maintain a counseling caseload, with an emphasis on supporting middle school students. Provide individual and group counseling based on identified student needs. Utilize evidence-based and developmentally appropriate practices to address students' social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs. Develop measurable clinical goals and monitor student progress toward those goals. Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential documentation of counseling services, interventions, and student progress. Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and follow-up support when needed. Collaborate with families, teachers, school leaders, and other stakeholders to develop coordinated student support plans. Participate in IEP, student support, and other multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate. School-Wide Student Supports Serve as an active member of the Student Support Team (SST) and contribute clinical expertise to student intervention planning. Partner with school leaders and staff to strengthen school-wide behavioral, social-emotional, and restorative practices. Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and other prevention and intervention frameworks. Develop and facilitate targeted counseling groups based on identified student needs, including topics such as healthy relationships, identity development, bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and social-emotional wellness. Support guidance counselors and school leadership with the middle and high school application processes, as appropriate. Collaborate with stakeholders to promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate. Coordinate referrals to external mental health and community-based providers when students require services beyond the school's scope. Develop and maintain relationships with external providers to strengthen the school's network of student and family supports. Crisis Intervention & Student Safety Provide clinical leadership during student mental health and behavioral crises. Support staff in identifying students who may require immediate clinical intervention or additional services. Coordinate with families, school leadership, and external providers when higher levels of care or outside intervention are required. Ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up after significant student incidents or clinical interventions. Support the development and implementation of crisis response protocols and procedures. Key Deliverables The Clinical Supervisor will be responsible for: Providing consistent weekly clinical supervision to assigned mental health providers. Maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation. Establishing clear systems for monitoring student counseling goals and progress. Maintaining an appropriate student counseling caseload while effectively balancing supervisory responsibilities. Developing and facilitating targeted student counseling groups based on identified needs. Providing ongoing coaching and professional development to the clinical team. Supporting consistent implementation of school-wide behavioral and social-emotional systems. Maintaining systems to monitor clinical credentials, documentation, and compliance requirements. Strengthening partnerships with external mental health and community-based providers. Providing timely crisis intervention, documentation, and follow-up when needed. Qualifications Required Current New York State clinical licensure in good standing that permits the candidate to perform the responsibilities of the position. Minimum of five years of relevant clinical, social work, counseling, or mental health experience. Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision to mental health professionals. Experience working with children and adolescents. Strong knowledge of clinical assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and case management. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Strong professional judgment and commitment to confidentiality and ethical clinical practice. Ability to receive and apply feedback and contribute to a highly collaborative professional culture. Commitment to the academic, social, and emotional success of students. Preferred LCSW or other New York State clinical license that permits supervision of applicable school-based mental health professionals. Five or more years of experience in a school-based mental health, social work, counseling, or related setting. Experience supervising LMSWs or other licensed/credentialed mental health professionals. Experience working with elementary and middle school students. Experience participating in IEP teams and supporting students receiving special education services. Knowledge of educationally related mental health services and special education processes. Experience with social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, MTSS, restorative practices, and positive behavioral interventions. Experience developing systems for measuring and analyzing student social-emotional or clinical outcomes. School-based certification or credentialing.
