Job Description

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a confident, compassionate healthcare professional who can help patients understand their treatment options and feel comfortable moving forward with care. This position is ideal for someone with medical knowledge—such as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), patient navigator, treatment coordinator, or experienced healthcare professional—who also enjoys building relationships, influencing decisions, and working toward measurable goals. The right person is proactive, organized, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of the patient journey. They communicate complex information in a clear and reassuring way, ask thoughtful questions, identify barriers, and help patients find practical solutions. Our ideal Patient Care Coordinator is warm, positive, resilient, and motivated by both patient outcomes and practice growth. They move with urgency, remain composed in a busy clinical environment, and create a professional, welcoming experience at every interaction.
JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Care Coordinator is a patient-facing clinical support and treatment coordination professional. The coordinator works alongside a healthcare provider to help patients understand recommended allergy treatment, including allergy immunotherapy (a long-term treatment designed to reduce sensitivity to allergens). This role combines patient education, care coordination, customer service, and consultative sales skills. The coordinator explains the recommended plan in easy-to-understand language, reviews anticipated insurance coverage and patient costs, answers questions, addresses concerns, and follows up with patients who need additional information or time before beginning treatment. Success in this position is measured by the quality of the patient experience, timely and accurate follow-up, patient engagement, and the number of eligible patients who confidently begin recommended treatment. This is not a traditional hard-sales role; it requires a trusted healthcare professional who can educate, guide, and motivate patients while supporting the practice's growth goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate Premier Allergy & Asthma's core values of Adaptability, Compassion, Positive Energy, and Going Above and Beyond in every aspect of the role. Work closely with an assigned physician or advanced practice provider to support patients who receive a new treatment recommendation. Meet with patients during or immediately following their appointment to explain provider-recommended allergy treatment in clear, patient-friendly language. Use clinical knowledge to reinforce treatment goals, general expectations, next steps, and the importance of following the prescribed treatment plan. Build rapport and establish trust with patients and families from the initial discussion through the start of treatment. Review estimated insurance benefits, anticipated out-of-pocket costs, payment expectations, and available next steps while staying within the scope of the role. Ask thoughtful questions to understand patient concerns, address common objections, and help remove practical barriers to beginning care. Coordinate enrollment, required documentation, scheduling, and communication needed for a smooth start to treatment. Provide timely follow-up to patients who need additional education, financial information, or time to make a treatment decision. Maintain an accurate list of pending treatment recommendations and proactively reconnect with patients who have not yet started therapy. Document patient conversations, decisions, and follow-up activity accurately in the electronic health record and other practice systems. Track personal and team performance measures, review progress with leadership, and identify opportunities to improve the patient experience and treatment-start process. Protect patient privacy and follow all practice policies, clinical protocols, and applicable healthcare regulations. Help maintain clean, organized, and patient-ready work areas. Perform other duties as assigned to support patients, providers, and practice operations.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
Required At least two years of experience in healthcare, patient service, customer service, consultative sales, or a related field. General medical knowledge and the ability to learn clinical information, insurance processes, and treatment workflows. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain healthcare information clearly and confidently. Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build rapport, earn trust, and guide patients through decisions. Comfort discussing treatment value, estimated costs, and patient concerns in a respectful, solutions-oriented manner. Strong organization, follow-through, attention to detail, and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm in a fast-paced medical environment. Comfort using electronic health records, scheduling systems, and standard office technology, or the ability to learn new systems quickly. A goal-oriented mindset and willingness to be accountable for measurable patient-engagement and treatment-start outcomes. Preferred Medical Assistant certification, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, or other relevant healthcare education or credential. Experience as a Medical Assistant, LPN, patient navigator, treatment coordinator, care coordinator, patient educator, or similar patient-facing healthcare professional. Experience in allergy, ENT, dermatology, dentistry, orthopedics, elective medicine, specialty pharmacy, or another setting where patients make ongoing treatment decisions. Experience in consultative sales, business development, hospitality, or another role that required relationship building and performance goals. Experience working with performance measures such as patient enrollment, treatment acceptance, follow-up completion, retention, or conversion goals.
