Medical Surgical and Intermediate Care/Cardiac Stepdown Units In this important role, the Health Unit Coordinator will provide clerical and administrative support to the nursing team while serving as a key communication link between providers, patients, families, and hospital departments. The Health Unit Coordinator helps ensure smooth daily operations by monitoring electronic medical records, processing physician orders, coordinating communication, and supporting exceptional patient care.The Health Unit Coordinator:
Professionally answer and direct calls from patients, family members, physicians, and ancillary departments. Monitor cardiac telemetry and promptly notify nursing staff of any changes. Obtain and accurately document vital signs, reporting any abnormal findings in a timely manner. Maintain proficiency with all computer and electronic health record systems. Communicate information and relay messages accurately and efficiently to providers, nursing staff, and other departments. Prepare, maintain, and organize patient charts. Demonstrate flexibility in daily assignments and responsibilities. Perform cardiac monitoring duties and appropriately report changes in patient status. Serve as the unit receptionist and assist with ordering and maintaining supplies. Answers and directs calls from patients, family members, physicians, and ancillary departments in a professional and pleasant manner.Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent education required Requires typing skills of 20 wpm and computer skills. Required to have completed basic EKG course and/or score 85% or higher on BMH EKG exam within six months of hire. Requires the ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively to emergency situations. Requires excellent communication technique.
