Medical Records/Health Unit Coordinator Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Health Unit Coordinator / Medical Records Clerk to support both medical records management and unit coordination functions. This role requires strong administrative, communication, and computer skills, with the ability to handle more advanced responsibilities within a healthcare setting.Key Responsibilities Medical Records & Documentation:
Maintain medical records in compliance with state and federal guidelines Accurately scan and upload resident records into EMR and physical charts Review documents for completeness, accuracy, and proper filing Record and maintain resident identification data (charts, wristbands, ID cards, etc.) Ensure strict confidentiality of all resident information (HIPAA compliance) Report any suspected or known confidentiality breachesAdministrative & Coordination Duties:
Answer and direct phone calls, take messages as needed Collect, file, and manage documents, correspondence, and records Maintain the nursing station in a clean and organized manner Direct visitors to appropriate areas within the facility Order and maintain office and department suppliesUnit Support & Communication:
Communicate professionally with physicians, residents, families, and staff Assist nursing team with documentation and medical records processing Keep staff and families informed of resident appointments Arrange resident appointments and coordinate transportation Prepare necessary paperwork for appointments, discharges, and transfers (including ER visits) Assist with resident transfers, including coordination and documentationAdditional Responsibilities:
Forward diet orders/changes to the Director of Food Services Attend facility meetings (Infection Control, QA, Policy, etc.) as required Assist in preparing reports related to nursing services and activities Support interdepartmental communication and collaboration Perform other duties as assignedQualifications:
Strong computer skills (EMR, Microsoft Office, email, document uploading) Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in typing/spelling Strong organizational and multitasking skills Effective communication skills across all levels Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience in medical records, healthcare administration, or similar role preferredExperience Requirements:
Long-term care experience: 1 year (Preferred) Medical records/Records management experience: 1 year (Required- Non-negotiable) Medical terminology knowledge: 1 year (Required
