Job Description

Audiology Externship Opportunity - May/June 2027 A well-established ENT practice in the Birmingham area is seeking an audiology extern for a May or June 2027 start. This is a high-volume, hands-on opportunity within a collaborative team environment that emphasizes both clinical excellence and a positive, supportive culture. Our practice has been serving the community since 1971 and continues to grow. We take pride in creating an environment where employees feel valued and supported. Our audiology team is dedicated to best practices and high-quality patient care, while also maintaining a welcoming and engaging workplace. This externship provides a well-rounded clinical experience across the full scope of audiology. The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience in diagnostic testing, including otoscopy, immittance testing, DPOAEs, and comprehensive audiometric evaluations. There is also exposure to advanced procedures such as VNG, ABR, and VEMP interpretation, along with involvement in hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and troubleshooting. Additional training includes report writing, billing and coding, and patient counseling. Students will have opportunities to participate in a variety of specialty services, including cochlear implant care, evoked potentials testing, and newborn hearing screenings across different clinic locations. The patient population is primarily adult, with some pediatric exposure. While students will gain experience with tympanometry, OAEs, and conditioned play audiometry, the pediatric caseload is more limited compared to a dedicated children's hospital setting. All externs are supervised by audiologists who hold their CCC-A. Select locations are equipped with real ear measurement systems to support best-practice hearing aid fittings. The externship begins in May or June 2027, and housing assistance may be available for qualified candidates. To apply, please submit a resume, letter of intent, and two to three letters of recommendation. Candidates will be contacted for a phone interview once materials are received, and an on-site interview is optional. For more information or to apply, please contact: externships@fuelmedical.com
