Job Description

Manning Family Children's is a 263-bed, not-for-profit pediatric medical center offering a comprehensive range of healthcare services for children from birth to 21 years. For 70 years, Children's has proudly served as Louisiana's only, freestanding, comprehensive children's hospital with more than 600 pediatric-trained providers and 3,000 employees solely dedicated to the care of kids. Our practice is looking for an extern with strong diagnostic abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, a desire to work in a pediatric setting, and a willingness to learn. Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: Basic audiometry: air, bone, and speech assessments Immittance measures Otoacoustic Emissions Basic ABR skills Hearing aid checks/troubleshooting Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: Master pediatric assessment and protocols including: Play audiometry VRA Immittance measures Otoacoustic Emissions Diagnostic/screening ABR Newborn hearing screens/follow-up Hearing aid checks, troubleshooting, selection and fitting Counseling and recommendations Cochlear implant assessment/mapping Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern: Regularly Hearing Screenings Everyday Pediatric evaluations: infant/toddler Everyday Pediatric evaluations: school-age Rarely Adult hearing evaluations Everyday Tympanometry Everyday Acoustic Reflexes Never Auditory processing evaluations Regularly Hearing Screenings Regularly Evoked potential assessments Never Intra-operative monitoring cases Everyday Otoacoustic emissions Never Industrial/hearing conservation Never Vestibular assessments Never Vestibular rehabilitation Regularly Hearing aids dispensed Regularly Hearing aid selection/fitting Never Audiologic rehabilitation (group or individualized) Regularly Cochlear implant evaluations Never Cochlear implant rehabilitation Never Tinnitus assessments Never Tinnitus rehabilitation Never Cerumen management Research opportunities?
