Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join our medical laboratory team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in laboratory tissue processing, histological techniques, and pathology testing, with a commitment to precision and quality. As a Histology Technician, you will play a vital role in preparing tissue samples for diagnostic and research purposes, ensuring adherence to laboratory standards and safety regulations. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful medical research and patient care through meticulous laboratory work. Duties Prepare and process tissue specimens for histological examination, including embedding, sectioning, and staining using advanced laboratory techniques. Perform laboratory tissue sectioning with precision to produce high-quality slides suitable for microscopic analysis. Conduct immunohistochemistry procedures to detect specific antigens in tissue samples, supporting diagnostic accuracy. Maintain accurate documentation of all specimen processing steps within Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). Follow strict laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations to ensure compliance and quality control. Operate and maintain medical laboratory equipment used in tissue processing, sectioning, and staining. Assist with pathology testing by preparing specimens for microscopic evaluation by pathologists or researchers. Adhere to aseptic techniques during sample handling to prevent contamination and ensure sample integrity. Maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment while observing safety protocols related to laboratory tissue handling. Requirements Proven minimum of 3 years of experience in a high volume laboratory settings with a focus on histotechnology or pathology specimen preparation. Knowledge of laboratory tissue sectioning, histological laboratory techniques, and immunohistochemistry methods. Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) for specimen tracking and data entry. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology principles relevant to histology work. Proficiency in laboratory procedures such as specimen processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Ability to operate complex medical laboratory equipment reliably and troubleshoot technical issues effectively. Excellent attention to detail combined with strong organizational skills necessary for precise sample preparation. Effective communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including pathologists, researchers, and clinical staff. Prior hospital or healthcare experience is advantageous but not mandatory; relevant Pathology lab experience is also valued.
