Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Histology Technician to serve as the Night Shift Lead in our histological laboratory. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in clinical laboratory settings, demonstrating expertise in tissue processing, sectioning, and histological techniques. As the Night Shift Lead, you will oversee daily laboratory operations, ensure adherence to quality standards, and mentor team members to maintain high levels of accuracy and efficiency. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to vital pathology testing and research initiatives within a dynamic healthcare environment. Duties Supervise and coordinate the activities of histology technicians during the night shift, ensuring timely completion of tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining procedures. Oversee laboratory tissue sample preparation, including fixation, dehydration, infiltration, and embedding of specimens in accordance with standard operating procedures. Perform complex laboratory tissue sectioning using microtomes or cryostats with precision to produce high-quality slides for diagnostic or research purposes. Implement and monitor laboratory techniques such as immunohistochemistry, special stains, and other histological procedures while maintaining compliance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations. Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and operated according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards. Maintain detailed documentation of procedures, quality control measures, and specimen tracking within Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). Uphold laboratory safety protocols including aseptic technique and proper handling of hazardous materials; ensure staff compliance with safety guidelines. Provide training and mentorship to junior staff members on laboratory techniques, pathology terminology, and laboratory standard operating procedures. Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate specimen processing for pathology testing. Experience Proven clinical laboratory experience with a focus on histotechnology or pathology laboratories. Extensive knowledge of laboratory tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and other histological laboratory techniques. Familiarity with medical laboratory work environments adhering to CLIA regulations and hospital standards. Experience operating medical laboratory equipment such as microtomes, cryostats, stainers, and microscopes. Strong understanding of medical terminology related to pathology. Prior experience working within a hospital is preferred Proficiency in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for data entry, tracking samples, and reporting results. Knowledge of anatomy and pathology principles relevant to tissue analysis; ability to interpret basic histopathological findings is a plus. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing night shift operations while maintaining high-quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
