Job Description

Dermpath Laboratory Histologist - USFTGP Dermatology - ( 260001GO ) Description The Mohs Histotechnician supports the Mohs surgical team by preparing high ‑ quality histologic specimens for immediate microscopic evaluation by the Mohs Surgeon. This role involves processing tissue stages and layers using the Mohs technique, including embedding, freezing, cutting, staining, and slide preparation in a fast ‑ paced, time ‑ sensitive environment. The Histotechnician ensures accurate specimen handling, maintains the functionality and cleanliness of the Mohs laboratory, and assists with patient care activities such as coordinating patient flow, supporting the surgeon during procedures, and preparing patients for treatment. The position requires excellent technical precision, sterile ‑ field support, and effective communication to ensure positive clinical outcomes and a seamless patient experience.
Qualifications Required:
Associated Degree - Science License/Registrations - Issued by Florida or Compact State Registered Nurse Clinical Lab Technologist Work Experience and Additional Information Two (2) years experience in an ambulatory care clinic and or laboratory. Prior experience processing tissue for a Mohs surgeon Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understanding of Mohs tissue processing, including embedding, freezing, cutting, staining, and slide preparation techniques. Ability to handle pathological specimens with precision, maintain labeling accuracy, and prepare slides that meet high standards required for real ‑ time surgical evaluation. Knowledge of sterile field maintenance, surgical assisting principles, and proper specimen care during Mohs procedures. Skilled at working efficiently in a high ‑ intensity, time ‑ sensitive environment with prolonged periods of technical activity. Ability to coordinate patient flow, explain testing or follow ‑ up steps, and collaborate professionally with surgeons, referring physicians, and clinical staff. Ability to troubleshoot equipment, maintain laboratory functionality, and ensure supplies, instruments, and stains are prepared and available.
