Job Description
We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Mohs Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you'll play a crucial role under the guidance of the Mohs Surgeon. Your expertise will extend to the use of special stains and immunohistochemistry, slide prep ensuring a thorough understanding of skin cancer cell identification. Be prepared to contribute to a collaborative team, work independently, and adhere to policies while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Your dedication will be pivotal in shaping the care for our patients. This position requires regular travel between our Sarasota and Tampa area clinics. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs all of the processes to prepare tissue samples (Mohs and frozen sections) for diagnostic evaluation ensuring that all regulations are met and that all productivity and quality standards are met or surpassed. Monitors all quality control and quality assurance documentation and reports any variances up to the Histology Manager. Monitors collection and pick-up of hazardous waste and forwards all documentation to the Histology Manager. Maintains all equipment (cryostats, refrigerators, hoods) according to established protocols.Essential Functions:
Sets up the staining station. Organizes cassettes and slides for the day. Prepares frozen section and Mohs log books. Follows appropriate procedures in the processing of Mohs and frozen section specimens. Makes slides for each Mohs/frozen case promptly and in a timely fashion. Rotates and freshens staining solutions throughout the day as needed. Coverslips Mohs/frozen section slides and delivers to the appropriate area for viewing by the surgeon. Cleans and maintains cryostats and refrigerators. Maintains staining line per set protocols. Removes all trash and biohazard material from lab. Treats all patients/co-workers with respect. Maintains inventory in an orderly manner for all lab locations and sends supply list for all offices to Histology Lab. Commuting/Traveling to other offices. Properly perform specimen preparation techniques, ensuring complete representation of vital margins and maintain proper orientation. Documents daily equipment maintenance, reagent filtering and exchanges, temperature logs and quality control forms. Maintain Laboratory Procedures in compliance with CLIA and state regulations as well as OSHA safety. Education and/orWork Experience Requirements:
1.Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent 2. Ability to perform good quality frozen sectioning of Mohs and routine tissue for diagnostic purposes at a fast pace. 3. Knowledge and experience with the performance of routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining. 4. Detail-oriented with the ability to record and report properly. 5. Ability to work as a team member. 6. Well-organized with attention to detail. 7. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Physical Requirements:
Must be able to spend a great deal of the day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. It is reasonable to anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds in any given day.Excellent Benefit Package Including:
