Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Mohs Histotechnician is responsible for preparing and processing frozen tissue specimens for immediate microscopic evaluation during Mohs micrographic surgery. This role is essential in supporting the surgeon by delivering accurate, high-quality laboratory results in a timely manner. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
Two years of experience in a pathology laboratory that includes specimen processing is preferred, with two years of experience in embedding tissue and microtomy including small biopsy. Histochemical staining procedure experience is preferred. Experience in Mohs, dermatopathology, or frozen section histology strongly preferred. Knowledge of histology techniques, staining procedures, and laboratory quality standards. Ability to work independently with strong organizational and time-management skills.
Education:
High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree or Associates degree in a clinical laboratory science or biological or health science preferred.
Licensure & Certifications:
HTHTL - Histology Certified or Certified Histotechnologist through
ASCP. HTL
(ASCP) certification or eligibility is preferred.
Other Requirements:
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology. Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information required. Experience with CoPath soft-ware a plus. Demonstrate accuracy in preparing, staining and mounting tissue sections. Ability to function independently and proficiently. Ability to act rapidly and decisively in emergencies. Must be able to move and lift and/or push patients, supplies and equipment on regular basis. Professional with good communication skills and ability to deal successfully with patients, family, physicians and multidisciplinary team members. Attendance at all mandatory education is required. Must be able to operate Meditech system, Microsoft Word, PDF files.
