Per Diem / Part-Time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Histotechnician to join our team. This role is responsible for the preparation and processing of tissue specimens obtained during Mohs micrographic surgery, ensuring the highest quality histologic slides for accurate and timely surgical decision-making. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to patient safety. Key Responsibilities Prepare and process tissue specimens obtained during Mohs micrographic surgery, including embedding, freezing, cutting, staining, and mounting tissue sections for microscopic evaluation. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot cryostats and other laboratory equipment used in specimen preparation. Produce high-quality histologic slides with accuracy and efficiency to support same-day surgical margin evaluation. Label, track, and maintain proper chain of custody for all specimens to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. Collaborate closely with the Mohs surgeon and clinical team throughout the surgical day to facilitate efficient workflow. Perform routine quality control procedures and maintain laboratory records in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements. Monitor laboratory inventory and coordinate replenishment of supplies and equipment as needed. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, infection prevention, and laboratory safety standards. Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and workflow optimization. Accurately document specimen processing and laboratory activities within designated systems. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Previous Mohs Histotechnology experience required. Hands-on experience preparing frozen tissue sections using a cryostat. Strong knowledge of histology laboratory procedures, tissue processing, staining techniques, and quality control practices. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing workflow demands. Working knowledge of laboratory safety standards, infection control practices, and applicable regulatory requirements. Proficiency with laboratory documentation and basic computer systems. Preferred Qualifications Completion of an approved Histotechnician (HT) training program. ASCP Histotechnician (HT) Certification preferred. Histotechnologist (HTL) certification is a plus.
