Job Description Supervision:

Coordinates work flow of grossing and processing areas

Distribution and Transportation:

Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens

Specimen Handling & Processing:

Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens. Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens

Communication:

Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers Customer Service Uses AIDET as applicable Attends CARES training. When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers. Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner

Employee Relations:

Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees

Reporting/Recordkeeping:

Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives Assures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control

Education:

Assists with training of new employees Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills Stays abreast of regulatory changes

Job Knowledge:

High school diploma; required A.A. degree or completion of 2 years of college coursework; highly desirable Minimum of 1 year experience working in laboratory; preferred Proficient computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel); required Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; required Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; required

ASCP Certification:
