The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. Histology Technologist•RWJBarnabas Health A typical day for a Histology Technologist may include: Preparing tissue specimens for pathologic examination through embedding, microtomy, routine and special staining, immunohistochemistry, and accurate specimen labeling. Performing and documenting quality control measures to ensure accurate and reliable laboratory results. Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting histology equipment while completing routine preventive maintenance. Optimizing and validating new antibodies and laboratory procedures as needed. Entering pathology procedures and verifying charges accurately within Cerner. Prioritizing outreach cases to improve turnaround times and customer satisfaction. Maintaining laboratory inventory, documenting supply receipts, and ensuring adequate stock levels. Participating in performance improvement initiatives by collecting data, identifying opportunities for process enhancements, and monitoring outcomes. Assisting with the development of new laboratory procedures and evaluating new instrumentation. Participating in departmental safety activities, continuing education, and maintaining compliance with Standard Precautions and Hazardous Materials programs. Assuming supervisory responsibilities as requested and supporting daily laboratory operations. You enjoy working collaboratively with pathologists and laboratory professionals to support patient care. You are committed to quality, safety, and continuous process improvement. You possess excellent communication and organizational skills and are comfortable using laboratory information systems and Microsoft Office applications. To be considered for this Histology Technologist opportunity: High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred:
Two years of college coursework.
Preferred:
Completion of a NAACLS-approved laboratory training program or an ASCP-recognized Histology program. Three or more years of histology experience required.
Preferred:
Five or more years of experience in a histology laboratory. ASCP certification as HT or HTL required.
Preferred:
HT or HTL certification with Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC). Ability to communicate effectively in English. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including spreadsheets and word processing software.
