Job Summary:
Organizes, maintains and stores pathology specimens, slides and blocks, prepares frozen sections, maintains histology equipment, maintains the morgue, disposes of chemical and biological waste, and performs pathology secretarial duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
PC skills needed for efficient computer utilization. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to demonstrate courtesy, respect, and empathy to all individuals, patients, families, co-workers and physicians and comply with customer service expectations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Receives, accessions, organizes, distributes pathology specimens, slides, and blocks both internally and externally. Stores and disposes specimens according to regulatory guidelines. Assists pathologists and coordinates with other departments and facilities as needed. Prepares frozen sections under direct supervision of a histologist or pathologist. Handles supplies and reagents in the prescribed manner. Organizes and maintains pathology documentation including specimen logs, send-out testing, and legal requests. Screen, receive and direct telephone calls.

Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision.
Working Relationships:
Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and external customers. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
