Full Job Description Job Purpose:
The Travel Histo Technician at Dermatology Partners is responsible for preparing and processing histological specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis. This role involves traveling to various locations to provide essential histology services, ensuring timely and accurate results to support dermatological care.
Key Responsibilities:
Travel to designated locations to perform histology procedures, ensuring all equipment and supplies are available and functional. Prepare and process tissue specimens, including embedding, sectioning, and staining, following established protocols and safety standards. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring all instruments are calibrated and functioning correctly. Collaborate with dermatologists and laboratory staff to ensure accurate and efficient processing of specimens. Maintain detailed records of all specimens processed, including documentation of procedures and results. Adhere to all regulatory and safety guidelines, ensuring compliance with laboratory standards. Provide training and guidance to junior staff or new team members as needed. Stay updated with advancements in histology techniques and incorporate best practices into daily operations.
Required Education:
Associate's degree in Histotechnology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Histotechnician, preferably in a dermatology or medical laboratory setting. Proven experience in preparing and processing tissue samples for histological examination. Experience with embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques, particularly in dermatopathology.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in the use of microtomes, tissue processors, and other laboratory equipment relevant to histotechnology. Strong understanding of laboratory safety and quality control procedures. Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise protocols. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with medical professionals and colleagues. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
