Job Description

Under direct supervision, prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis. Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment. Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality. Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail. Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience:
One (1) year experience is required.
Education:
High school diploma or GED is required.
Licenses & Certifications:
Eligible for certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is preferred. Processes, embeds, cuts, and stains surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review. Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation and staining meets laboratory requirements. Prioritizes test procedures and completes procedures in a timely manner. Maintains proper records of all tests completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations. Performs instrument maintenance utilizing established protocols. Performs all other duties as assigned.
