Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis. Gross, process, embed, cut, and stain surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review. Performs complex histologic procedures and analyzes and corrects problems using established scientific principles. Reviews, records and analyzes data in order to make judgments. Maintains instruments, utilizing established protocols. Follows established policies and procedures. Performs all other duties as assigned. Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment. Recent experience working with a wide variety of tissues in a laboratory or clinical setting. Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality. Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail. Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
