Summary Under direct supervision, provides assistant support services for histology, cytology, front office, and pathologists. Performs a variety of technical procedures which assist in the production of microscopic slides.

Position Reports To :

Anatomic Pathology Manager Essential Functions Cleaning and organizing of assigned stations as needed. Embedding, microtomy and delivery of certain specimens as needed. Assist with the monitoring, documentation, set up and maintenance of histology's instrumentation. Accurately follow established histology protocols. Assist with special stains as assigned. Assist with slide/block filing, sorting, sendouts, returns, retrievals (warehouse) and disposal. Assisting front office with resulting cases as needed. Assisting cytology with walking in pap specimens as needed. Answer telephones and communicate with surrounding departments. Communicate problems and information to appropriate leads or management. Order & restock supplies as assigned, assist leads with item sweep checks. Demonstrates correct safety practices as defined in established protocols. Handles patient specimens, hazardous chemicals & waste, according to policy. Other duties as assigned. Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.

Qualifications Required:

High school diploma or GED.

Desired:

Associate Degree and at least 1 year experience in the laboratory. Physical/Sensory Demands O = Occasional, represents 1 to 25% or up to 30 minutes in a 2 hour workday. F = Frequent, represents 26 to 50% or up to 1 hour of a 2 hour workday. C = Continuous, represents 51% to 100% or up to 2 hours of a 2 hour workday.
