Hourly Wage:
$20.00 - $23.00 per hour $3.00/hour Shift Differential for Awake Overnight Shifts REACH, Inc. is seeking dependable, detail-oriented, and compassionate individuals to join our team as a Complex Medical Direct Support Professional (DSP) . This position provides intensive, hands-on support to an individual with developmental disabilities and complex medical needs in a home setting. This position centers on providing direct personal care, health-related supports, and individualized assistance that helps an individual remain safe, healthy, and comfortable in their home. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in healthcare, caregiving, nursing support, or human services and offers the chance to develop valuable hands-on skills while making a meaningful difference in someone's daily life. While Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is not required, many of the duties are similar to those performed by CNAs and other direct care professionals. REACH provides extensive training and mentorship to ensure employees feel confident and prepared before working independently. What began as a small family-led initiative became an official nonprofit in 1978 and has grown into a trusted provider of services throughout Southeast Alaska. REACH honors and respects the people we serve by promoting choice, dignity, and well-being through advocacy and individualized supports. A Day in the Life of a Medical Support DSP As a Medical Support DSP, you will play a vital role in supporting an individual with significant physical and medical support needs. This position requires attentiveness, patience, and a commitment to providing quality care. All support provided in this role is hands-on and person-centered , with a strong focus on health, safety, communication, and quality of life. You will receive thorough training and ongoing support to learn the individual's routines, preferences, and specialized care needs. This is an in-person role at our Juneau location. This is not a live-in position.
Responsibilities May Include:
Providing full assistance with daily personal care routines Safe transfers using a Hoyer lift and other adaptive equipment Assisting with catheter care, including monitoring, cleaning around the site, ensuring proper placement, and emptying drainage bags Providing G-tube care and administering tube feedings according to established procedures Assisting with medication administration as trained and authorized Supporting communication through American Sign Language (ASL) and other individualized communication methods Assisting with daily range-of-motion exercises and mobility routines Monitoring for changes in health, comfort, or wellbeing and reporting concerns appropriately Maintaining detailed, accurate documentation and medication records Following individualized support plans, health care protocols, and agency procedures Helping create a safe, respectful, and comfortable home environment This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy building meaningful relationships while providing skilled, attentive support that makes a significant impact in someone's daily life. Training & Support No prior experience with G-tubes, catheter care, Hoyer lifts, or ASL is required.

Employees will receive training on the individual's specific medical supports, communication methods, routines, and care needs. Available Schedules 8-hour shifts 12-hour shifts Day, evening, and awake overnight opportunities available Please note: Overnight shifts are awake shifts. Sleeping shifts are not available for this position. Who We Are Looking For 18 years of age or older High school diploma or equivalent Compassionate, dependable, and attentive to detail Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to learn specialized medical support techniques Comfort providing personal care and hands-on assistance Ability to work independently while following established procedures Moderate computer skills and ability to complete documentation accurately Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building positive relationships Preferred But Not Required Experience as a caregiver, DSP, CNA, PCA, home health aide, or similar role Experience supporting individuals with medical or physical disabilities Basic knowledge of sign language or willingness to learn Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work is performed primarily in an individual's home Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repositioning Ability to safely assist with transfers and mobility support Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds Ability to provide full physical assistance when required Visual and auditory acuity necessary to monitor health and safety needs Ability to respond effectively during emergencies Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids Transportation Requirements Transportation may not be a primary responsibility of this position. Some assignments may require driving.
