Job Description
The Schedule (please read first) This is a live-in weekend role. You arrive Friday at 5pm and stay through Monday at 12pm, sleeping at his home each night. That is three overnights (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) and roughly 67 hours of continuous, on-site presence across the weekend. This is not a set of separate daytime shifts. If you have a Monday morning commitment that requires an earlier departure, tell us, we can be flexible with the Monday end time. About This Role This is a part-time backup provider position supporting an individual with Cerebral Palsy (referred to at Homies as a "Homie") who already has a primary support team in place. You will not be the lead, you will be a steady, trusted addition to a small circle of people he relies on. Your role is to provide consistent, calm, attentive support during the hours you are scheduled, to honor the routines and preferences his primary team has established, and to build a real relationship with him over time. About Your Future Homie He is a 60-year-old man living in his own place in the Irvine area. He uses a wheelchair, is a man of strong faith, and is deeply loyal to his friends. The people he loves are at the center of his world, and a really good day for him looks simple: time with a friend, getting out of the house, and grabbing food somewhere he enjoys. He's vegetarian (eggs are a yes, McDonald's is a love), and he has a serious soft spot for Hershey bars and Monster energy drinks. He loves live music, and any activity or event that honors veterans, or a car show, is a win. He's a confident technology user who manages his own calendar, FaceTimes with his people throughout the day, and orders just about anything he needs from Amazon. He communicates in whatever way works in the moment, through speech (although he is non-verbal, he will attempt to make sounds that you can interpret), text, sign language, FaceTime, and writing. He is direct about what he needs and what he doesn't want, and he does his best when the people around him slow down, listen, and treat him as the decision-maker in his own life. What He's Looking For in a Support Person Patience and consistency above all. He thrives with people who are predictable, calm, and willing to meet him where he is. Respect for his voice. He communicates in multiple ways and needs someone who listens carefully and follows his lead, not someone who rushes or overrides him. Comfort with mobility support. He uses a wheelchair full-time and requires staff-assisted transfers (no unsupervised transfers, the only exception being when he uses the restroom). Comfort with safe transfer technique, or willingness to be trained, is essential. A warm, social personality. His friendships are not optional to his wellbeing, they are essential. Someone who genuinely enjoys conversation, connection, and being out in the community will thrive here. Respect for his faith. God is central to his life, and he wants that part of who he is to be acknowledged, never pressured or dismissed. Flexibility and good humor. A great fit will be someone who can connect with him and his fun, child-like humor. Day-to-Day Support Includes Personal care and hygiene support, with a calm and patient approach Meal prep and light home management Companionship and conversation Transportation coordination and occasional accompaniment on community outings (he uses ACCESS Transportation). He is in the process of purchasing a wheelchair accessible van. Pedestrian and transfer safety supervision Honoring the routines and protocols set by the primary support team Administrative and Team Responsibilities Accurate, consistent time logging for every shift Daily documentation of support provided, including hygiene, transfer supervision, community outings, and any notable observations or incidents Open, timely communication with his primary support team to ensure continuity of care and shared awareness of how he is doing Active collaboration with the Homies team Comfort using shared digital tools (calendars, messaging, documentation platforms) to stay connected and aligned What Makes This Match Work This Homie has made real progress over the past few years in communication, relationships, and community safety. The right backup provider will protect that progress by showing up consistently, communicating respectfully, and building trust slowly. He does best when he feels involved, respected, and heard, and the people who do well in his life are the ones who understand that his sense of control is not a personality preference, it is what keeps him grounded and well. If you are someone who values steady relationships, enjoys good music and good company, and believes that real support starts with listening, this could be a meaningful match.
