DSPs provide hands-on, person-centered support to help participants increase independence, develop life skills, build meaningful relationships, explore employment opportunities, and actively participate in their communities. This is an active, community-based position. DSPs should enjoy working directly with individuals, participating in community outings, teaching practical skills, and helping participants work toward their individualized goals. Responsibilities Provide direct, person-centered support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Support participants in achieving goals identified in their Individual Service Plans (ISPs). Assist participants with developing independent living and daily life skills. Teach and reinforce money management, budgeting, shopping, communication, social, and community-safety skills. Support employment readiness, including job searching, resume development, interview preparation, workplace skills, and appropriate professional behavior. Encourage participant choice, independence, self-advocacy, and decision-making. Participate in and facilitate recreational, educational, vocational, and community-based activities. Accompany participants on community outings, appointments, trainings, and program activities as assigned. Safely transport participants to and from program-related activities when assigned. Assist participants with learning to navigate public transportation and other community transportation options. Provide appropriate supervision and support while maintaining participant dignity and independence. Follow participant support plans, safety protocols, and instructions provided by program leadership. Complete accurate and timely daily service notes, attendance records, transportation documentation, and other required records. Observe participant progress and communicate concerns or significant changes to the DSP Lead or Program Manager. Maintain participant confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries. Follow mandated-reporting requirements and immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, injuries, incidents, or safety concerns. Follow all program policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and emergency protocols. Maintain a positive, professional, safe, and inclusive program environment. Attend required staff meetings and trainings. Perform additional participant-support duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements: Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or GED. Current CPR and First Aid Certification. Valid California driver's license. Current automobile insurance. Reliable transportation. Ability and willingness to transport participants when assigned. Ability to successfully complete required background clearances. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Ability to write accurate and timely service notes and documentation. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work respectfully with individuals with different abilities, needs, personalities, and communication styles. Ability to maintain participant confidentiality and professional boundaries. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Previous experience as a DSP, caregiver, job coach, behavioral support staff, community support worker, or similar role. Experience in an adult day program or community-based program. Knowledge of person-centered practices and Individual Service Plans (ISPs). Previous DSP experience is preferred but not required for candidates who demonstrate reliability, professionalism, compassion, and a willingness to learn. This is not a position where staff remain in one location all day. Participants regularly engage in community-based activities, life-skills training, employment-readiness activities, recreational outings, and other opportunities designed to promote independence and inclusion. Successful candidates should be comfortable driving, participating in outings, teaching practical skills, completing documentation, and remaining actively engaged with participants throughout their shifts.
