This position provides individualized, community-based support to an autistic adult with a focus on independence, communication, community safety, and meaningful participation in daily life. The direct support professional will use positive, evidence-based behavioral strategies and individualized supports while promoting autonomy, dignity, and age-appropriate independence. A caregiver for an autistic adult provides personalized daily support, implements positive behavior strategies, and helps build independence using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.

Pay Rate:

Up to $40 per hour (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities Implement ABA Strategies:

Follow behavior support plans created by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to encourage positive behaviors and support safe, adaptive alternatives to behaviors that interfere with independence.

Daily Living Support:

Assist with providing prompts for personal care, hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation.

Promote Independence:

Use prompting, modeling, reinforcement, and systematic fading of support to help him complete tasks as independently as possible rather than completing tasks for them.

Skill Building:

Teach and practice communication, social skills, and self-help tasks to increase daily independence.

Community Safety & Decision-Making:

Practice safe community navigation, appropriate communication, problem-solving, and accurate reporting of locations, activities, and plans.

Community Integration:

Accompany the individual to appointments, errands, and recreational outings safely.

Progress Tracking:

Document daily behaviors, milestones, and challenges accurately in shift notes.

Family Collaboration:

Communicate openly and consistently with family members and supervisors. Art Program - Assist in Art Program in Palo Alto Tuesdays and Wednesdays 930 to 4pm.

Qualifications and Skills Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of caregiving experience or working with autistic individuals.

ABA Knowledge:

Practical experience applying ABA techniques, reinforcement systems, and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

Education:

High school diploma required; college coursework in psychology, special education, or a related field is preferred.

Certifications:

Valid CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Driver's License:

A valid driver's license, clean driving record, valid insurance, and reliable transportation.
