Job Description
Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Male Direct Support Professional to provide exceptional care and assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents through personalized support, patient observation, and compassionate caregiving. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and age-related conditions such as dementia or geriatrics. The position is paid and requires a proactive, empathetic approach to support residents in their daily activities and promote their independence within a safe and respectful environment. Responsibilities Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and mobility support using manual handling techniques such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods. Monitor residents' health status by taking vital signs, observing patient behavior, and reporting changes to healthcare teams in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support medication administration and ensure adherence to care plans tailored to individual needs, including Alzheimer's care, dementia care, and memory care protocols. Prepare nutritious meals aligned with dietary requirements and assist residents with meal consumption while maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen area. Provide patient care through attentive observation, responding promptly to emergencies with first aid or CPR when necessary. Maintain a clean, safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and ensuring infection control standards are met across all care settings. Facilitate social engagement and community participation by assisting with transportation, recreational activities, and communication efforts tailored to each resident's preferences. Qualifications Prior experience working in group homes, , nursing homes, or home health environments is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to provide patient monitoring, personal care assistance, and support for individuals with disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism or intellectual disabilities. Knowledge of medication administration procedures, care plans, and safety protocols including first aid, CPR, heavy lifting techniques, and manual handling equipment like Hoyer lifts. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times. Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and collaboration with healthcare teams. Experience working with seniors or in geriatrics settings is advantageous. Ability to perform physical tasks involving heavy lifting or assisting with transfers while maintaining safety standards.
