Position Overview The Member Engagement Specialist works directly alongside adults with alternative abilities to create meaningful, engaging, and person-centered daily experiences. This frontline role supports members as they build relationships, explore interests, participate in activities, strengthen independence, and experience belonging within the Mission 18 community. The ideal candidate is dependable, energetic, compassionate, and comfortable providing individualized support throughout the day.

Essential Responsibilities Member Engagement & Direct Support:

Build positive, respectful relationships with members and support active participation in the Mission 18 day. Facilitate and participate in person-centered activities including recreation, wellness, creative expression, life skills, social experiences, community participation, and individual interests. Support member choice, independence, communication, self-advocacy, and relationship-building. Follow individualized member profiles, support plans, schedules, and guidance provided by Mission 18 leadership. Provide respectful, hands-on support with personal hygiene and activities of daily living as needed, including toileting, changing, handwashing, grooming, and other individualized personal care needs, while protecting each member's privacy, dignity, safety, and independence and following established support plans, procedures, and staff training.

Daily Program Support:

Prepare materials and spaces for daily programming and assist with transitions throughout the day. Support community outings, special events, wellness activities, and campus-based experiences. Observe member engagement, needs, and emerging concerns and communicate relevant information to the Lead Member Engagement Specialist or Member Engagement Facilitator. Complete attendance, participation notes, incident documentation, and other required records accurately and promptly.

Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with the Member Engagement Facilitator, Lead Member Engagement Specialist, Member & Family Navigator, and other Mission 18 team members. Participate in staff meetings, training, safety drills, and team development opportunities. Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, reliability, and respectful communication in all interactions. Contribute to a welcoming, flexible, and solutions-oriented culture as Mission 18 continues to grow. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in human services, education, psychology, recreation, healthcare, or a related field preferred. Experience supporting individuals with disabilities, alternative abilities, or diverse support needs preferred. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Dependable, patient, flexible, and able to take direction while also demonstrating initiative. Ability and willingness to provide direct personal care and hygiene support as required by individual member needs and established training. Valid Illinois driver's license preferred for community-based programming and outings.
