This position is responsible for routine animal care, maintaining the cleanliness of the barn and animal areas, and ensuring the animals receive excellent care. The ideal candidate is dependable, enjoys working with animals, and is comfortable working independently. Primary ResponsibilitiesAnimal Care Provide care for two horses, sixteen chickens, and three barn cats. Feed and provide fresh water to all animals. Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and communicate concerns promptly. Administer medications or supplements as directed. Turn horses out and bring them in as needed. Ensure animals have clean, safe, and comfortable living environments. Barn and Animal Area Care Muck horse stalls and refresh bedding. Clean the chicken coop and run. Sweep and maintain the cleanliness of the barn, tack room, feed room, and other animal care areas. Perform routine and periodic deep cleaning of the barn and animal areas. Clean and refill water buckets, troughs, and feeders. Empty trash and maintain a clean, organized barn environment. Help prepare the barn for therapy sessions, groups, and visitors as needed. General Support Water the garden adjacent to the barn as needed. Monitor feed, hay, bedding, and other animal care supplies and notify the appropriate staff when supplies are running low. Monitor the barn and surrounding animal areas for maintenance or safety concerns and promptly report them to the appropriate staff. Ensure gates, stalls, and fencing are secure. Provide backup coverage for other barn staff during weekdays and occasional weekends as needed. Assist with other animal care or barn-related tasks as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. Experience caring for horses and/or farm animals is required. Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. Dependable, organized, and self-motivated. Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, walking, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively with the Summit Ranch team. Schedule Approximately 10 hours per week. Typically Mondays and Wednesdays, about five hours each day. Flexible scheduling within those days. Opportunities for additional hours based on organizational needs and employee interest. Willingness to provide occasional backup coverage during weekdays and weekends as needed.
