The DCA assists with personal care, mobility, medication support, companionship, and light household duties while promoting the client's dignity, comfort, safety, and recovery. The position works closely with family members to follow the client's care plan.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday with shifts of 6:00 AM-1:00 PM and 1:00 PM-8:00 PM , with reduced weekend hours as needed (approximately 5-7 days per week).
Pay:
$18.00 per hour Qualifications CNA certification preferred or equivalent caregiving experience. Experience caring for stroke patients preferred. Experience with Hoyer lifts preferred (training provided). CPR certification preferred. Reliable transportation. Professional, dependable, compassionate, and patient. Comfortable working in a private home and around a family dog. Primary Responsibilities Personal Care Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, toileting, and incontinence care. Reposition client every 2-3 hours to prevent pressure injuries. Assist with transfers using a wheelchair, bed, and Hoyer lift (training provided). Medication & Nutrition Administer medications according to the care schedule. Prepare crushed medications as directed. Assist with meals, feeding, hydration, and document food and fluid intake. Mobility & Rehabilitation Assist with daily range-of-motion exercises. Reinforce physical, occupational, and speech therapy exercises as directed. Companionship Provide conversation, emotional support, cognitive activities, and encourage participation in daily routines and family interaction. Monitoring & Documentation Record vital signs, maintain caregiver notes, and immediately report changes in the client's condition, appetite, skin, pain, mobility, or behavior. Light Household Duties Prepare simple meals and snacks. Wash dishes and complete client-related laundry. Keep the client's room clean and organized. Change bed linens, sanitize frequently touched surfaces, and restock caregiving supplies. Skills & Competencies Compassionate, client-centered approach to care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to safely assist with transfers, mobility, and adaptive equipment. Knowledge of personal care, medication assistance, infection control, and documentation. Strong observation, organization, and time management skills. Ability to work independently while following the family's care plan. Professionalism, confidentiality, patience, and sound judgment. Ability to adapt to changing client needs while maintaining a safe, positive environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, lift, push, pull, and assist with transfers throughout the workday. Ability to safely operate mobility equipment, including wheelchairs and Hoyer lifts. Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies. Ability to accurately observe, document, and communicate changes in the client's condition. Ability to maintain emotional stability, professionalism, and confidentiality while providing high-quality care.
