As a Community Companion with Thrive Support & Advocacy , you'll work one-on-one with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), helping them live more independently, stay connected to their communities, and accomplish the things that matter to them. What Does a Community Companion Actually Do? Every person we support is different, so no two days are exactly alike.
You might help someone:
Get to work, an appointment, or an activity Go grocery shopping and plan meals Learn budgeting or household skills Attend a medical appointment and understand next steps Explore a new hobby or attend a community event Build social connections and become more involved in their community Work toward greater independence at home Simply have someone dependable to talk to, problem-solve with, and count on You'll also complete basic documentation about the support you've provided. This is relationship-based work . You'll get to know the people you support, understand their goals, and help them build the skills and confidence to live the life they choose. Who We're Looking For You don't need previous human services experience to be successful here. We're looking for people who are: Dependable and responsible Comfortable working independently Compassionate and respectful Good communicators Interested in helping other people reach their goals Able to follow through on commitments Experience as a caregiver, companion, direct support professional, CNA, educator, paraprofessional, behavioral health worker, or human services professional is welcome — but not required . Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Reliable vehicle with current insurance and registration Ability to pass required background checks Willingness to complete paid training Pay & Schedule Starting pay: $20.00/hour Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available. Community Companion schedules are created by matching your availability with the needs of the individuals we support. Opportunities may include daytime, evening, and weekend hours. During the interview process, we'll talk with you about your availability and the types of schedules currently available.
