Direct Support Professional (DSP) - Part-Time Clarksville, Maryland | $28.00 - 30.00/hour | DDA Self-Directed Services Come help someone live the life she chooses! We are looking for caring, dependable, and outgoing Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support a woman who is visually impaired and has developmental disabilities. She receives services through the Maryland DDA Self-Directed Services model and is looking for staff who will support her goals, encourage independence, and treat her with the respect and dignity she deserves. She is an active, social, and independent-minded woman who enjoys getting out into the community, meeting people, listening to music, attending events, shopping, trying new restaurants, participating in advocacy activities, and exploring new places. She is also involved in disability advocacy groups and enjoys being connected to her community. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, getting out of the house, discovering new places, and making a meaningful difference in someone's life. What You'll Do Support will take place primarily in the client's home in Clarksville and throughout the surrounding community, including Howard, Montgomery, and portions of Prince George's County . Depending on the position and schedule, responsibilities may include: Supporting independent living and daily life skills in the home Encouraging participation in cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, meal preparation, and other household activities Providing transportation to appointments, classes, activities, and community events Supporting community integration and participation in preferred activities Helping the client explore new places and develop meaningful social connections Supporting attendance at concerts, festivals, advocacy events, restaurants, shopping trips, and other recreational activities Providing encouragement and guidance while promoting as much independence as possible Supporting the client in following her own schedule, interests, choices, and personal goals Providing appropriate supervision and support to help ensure safety in the home and community We're Looking for Someone Who... The client is hoping to find staff who are: Kind, patient, dependable, and emotionally aware Respectful of an adult's independence, choices, and personal boundaries Comfortable supporting someone who is visually impaired Encouraging without being controlling or overbearing Outgoing and interested in getting out into the community Familiar with—or excited to discover—fun things to do throughout Central Maryland Comfortable traveling for occasional day trips to places such as Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and Northern Virginia Interested in music, social activities, community events, or disability advocacy Able to communicate openly and respectfully with the client and her support team Someone who genuinely enjoys helping another person pursue the life they want for themselves The client as a dedicated support team in place to help her stay safe and to support her with her services and decision making, which includes her family, CCS, Support Broker and Advocate. It is imperative that staff understand the roles of each team member and are committed to working with the team to support the client. This position is about helping her—not deciding for her what her life should look like. Two Part-Time Positions Available Staff Position #1 - Independent Living & Home Skills Approximately 2-3 days per week, 6 hours per day Typical schedule: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM, or 10:00 AM-4:00 PM This position will focus primarily on supporting the development and maintenance of independent living skills at home and in the immediate community. Activities may include cooking, meal preparation, household tasks, shopping, scheduling appointments, organization, and other skills that promote independence. Staff Position #2 - Community & Social Activities Approximately 2-3 days per week, 8 hours per day Typical schedule: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, or 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Occasional weekday evenings or weekends may be needed for special activities such as concerts, festivals, or other preferred events. This position will focus primarily on community participation and helping the client enjoy the activities she loves. This may include shopping, dining out, concerts, festivals, advocacy events, social activities, exploring new places, and other community experiences. General Responsibilities Provide direct support to an adult with visual impairment and developmental disabilities Maintain appropriate supervision and safety awareness throughout shifts Remain within eyesight of the client unless privacy is requested; during private time, remain within hearing distance Support appropriate personal care and daily routines as needed Encourage healthy eating and assist with meal preparation based on the client's preferences and needs Support a clean, organized, and comfortable home environment while encouraging the client's participation Teach and reinforce independent living skills Provide or assist with transportation to activities, appointments, and community outings Encourage social connections and participation in preferred community activities Support the client's recreational, educational, social, and advocacy interests Professional Expectations The right candidate understands that this is the client's life and her home .

Staff are expected to:

Treat the client and her family with dignity, respect, patience, and fairness Protect the client's privacy, confidentiality, and personal rights Act as a positive and professional role model Remain engaged with the client during working hours Keep personal phone use to a minimum and never conduct personal business during work time Keep a mobile phone available for shift documentation, communication with the support team, and emergencies Never photograph or record the client or post information about her on social media without her permission Accurately document shifts and services using the assigned app Enter and approve time in the required portal according to the payroll schedule Provide needed documentation to the team as requested Provide services only to this client during scheduled service hours Requirements Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the surrounding community Valid driver's license Current auto insurance and a satisfactory driving record Ability to pass a background screening Ability to complete required state-mandated training, including CPR/First Aid/AED Previous experience in direct support, disability services, or supporting individuals with visual impairments is preferred What We Offer $28.00 - 30.00 per hour Part-time employment Mileage reimbursement Paid training Meaningful, person-centered work Opportunity to support an active adult in pursuing her personal goals and interests
