We are seeking an energetic, dependable, and highly engaged Support Professional to provide 1:1 support to a young adult with autism in his home and community. We are looking for someone who enjoys being active, takes initiative, and is interested in building a meaningful, long-term relationship while supporting communication, independence, skill development and community participation. He is an active young adult who enjoys biking, hiking, swimming, cooking, outings and spending time in the community. He does best with support professionals who are engaged, patient, creative, respectful and willing to get involved in activities with him. The right person will understand that excellent 1:1 support means more than supervision. It means building trust, learning how he communicates, supporting his communication throughout the day, creating opportunities for independence, and helping him have an active and meaningful life. We would especially like to hear from candidates with experience in autism, developmental disabilities, special education, psychology, behavioral support, communication support, and occupational therapy. Current priority is Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., with additional weekday and weekend hours available. Up to approximately 30 hours/week. The Support Professional will provide 1:1 support in the community and in the home implementing the following: Providing 1:1 communication and assistive technology support Supporting communication, choice-making, and self-advocacy throughout the day Planning meaningful and age-appropriate activities in the home and community Supporting increased independence with daily living and personal care skills Facilitating recreational, leisure, social, and community activities Supporting functional academics and skill development Implementing established behavioral support strategies when needed Collecting simple daily data and documenting progress Collaborating with family and members of an established professional support team Training and ongoing oversight are provided by a BCBA and Delegating Nurse as applicable. Required CPR, First Aid, and CMT training will also be provided. Qualifications and Skills At least one year of experience supporting individuals with autism or developmental disabilities required Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred OR equivalent relevant experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to take initiative and independently plan meaningful activities Dependable and able to maintain a consistent schedule Valid driver's license Current auto insurance and reliable transportation Ability to successfully complete required background check/fingerprinting Professional references Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in getting to know the individual, supporting his communication, and helping him continue to build independence and participate fully in his community.
