About the
Role:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing personalized support and assistance. This position focuses on fostering independence and promoting community integration for clients through daily activities and social interactions. The DSP will work closely with clients to develop and implement individualized care plans that address their unique needs and goals. By building trusting relationships, the DSP will empower clients to achieve their personal aspirations and improve their overall well-being. Ultimately, the DSP's efforts contribute to creating a more inclusive society where individuals with disabilities can thrive and participate fully.Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role. Certification in CPR and First Aid. Knowledge of person-centered planning and support strategies.Responsibilities:
Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management. Support clients in developing and maintaining social skills through community engagement and recreational activities. Implement individualized care plans and monitor client progress, making adjustments as necessary to meet their evolving needs. Document client interactions and progress accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulations. Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and other professionals to coordinate care and advocate for clients' needs.Skills:
The required skills for this role include strong communication and interpersonal abilities, which are essential for building rapport with clients and their families. Problem-solving skills are utilized daily to address challenges that may arise in client care and to adapt support strategies as needed. Organizational skills are critical for managing multiple clients and ensuring that documentation is completed accurately and on time. Preferred skills, such as knowledge of CPR and First Aid, enhance the DSP's ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
