Services at the hospital include primary care, orthopedics, cancer, general surgery, radiology, pulmonology, dermatology, vascular, neurology, cardiac rehab and audiology. We also offer a wide range of minimally invasive procedures, imaging and lab tests, a dedicated inpatient rehabilitation center and a wound and hyperbaric center. What You'll Do As a Patient Care Assistant, you'll assist in direct patient care, general clerical duties, and other related services as assigned under the direction of a Registered Nurse. You'll report to the Resource Nurse or Module Leader in your area of assignment and be accountable to the department's Nurse Leader and/or the House Supervisor on duty. Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Job Responsibilities Provides direct care to the entire patient population served, which may include children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, meeting the physical and emotional needs of all patients, family, and significant others served. Achieves and maintains unit-specific competencies within a time frame determined by the department Nurse Leader. Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADL). Performs blood glucose monitoring through finger stick method. Discontinues Foley catheters, IV angiocaths, and saline-locks. Orders and stores supplies. Documents effectively and appropriately in the patient's electronic medical record. Obtains vital signs and reports abnormal findings to the RN. Records I & O accurately and reports inconsistencies to the RN. Performs chest compressions as a member of the code 100 team. Assists with physician order entry, scheduling procedures, and chart preparation as needed. Effectively documents and/or communicates all information relevant to patient care. Answers patients' requests promptly and responds appropriately. Reports observations, assessments, changes in condition, interventions, and responses to intervention to the RN in a timely manner. Participates in performance improvement activities for the unit and the department of nursing. Participates in staff orientation activities and peer support for new PCAs. Performs other related duties as assigned. What You Bring As a Patient Care Assistant, you'll bring a caring, patient-centered approach and the ability to meet the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families. You demonstrate the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and others. You demonstrate the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. You have an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent BLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), obtained prior to hire or transfer date Preferred Qualifications Certified Nurse Aide credential from the Michigan Nurse Aide Registry #BHNursingSupport26
