3:00 PM•11:00 PM Shift 11:00 PM•8:00 AM Overnight Shift Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide direct care, supervision, guidance, and support to children and adolescents residing in a group home setting. The DSP will help maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment while supporting each child's individual needs, goals, and daily routines. The ideal candidate must have prior experience working with children or adolescents in a group home, residential, behavioral health, foster care, childcare, or similar setting . Candidates must demonstrate patience, professionalism, good judgment, and the ability to respond appropriately to challenging situations. Essential Responsibilities Provide direct supervision and support to children in the group home. Maintain a safe, clean, structured, and supportive living environment. Assist children with daily living activities, personal hygiene, meals, transportation, and household routines. Follow each child's individualized service plan, treatment plan, and behavioral support strategies. Monitor children's behavior, safety, and emotional well-being. Provide appropriate redirection and positive reinforcement. Assist with homework, recreational activities, community activities, and skill-building. Administer or assist with medications as permitted by training and applicable regulations. Maintain accurate daily documentation, progress notes, incident reports, medication records, and shift reports. Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, case managers, families, and other service providers. Follow all agency policies, emergency procedures, and North Carolina regulatory requirements. Respond appropriately to emergencies, behavioral incidents, medical concerns, fire alarms, severe weather, and other safety situations. Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy and dignity of each child. Complete required training and maintain all required certifications. Perform other duties related to the care and supervision of residents as assigned. Overnight Shift Responsibilities For the 11:00 PM•8:00 AM shift, the DSP will: Maintain appropriate supervision of residents throughout the overnight period. Conduct required safety checks and document them accurately. Respond promptly to children's needs or emergencies during the night. Maintain a quiet, safe, and secure environment. Complete required overnight documentation and shift reports. Prepare the home and residents for the morning routine. Communicate important information to the incoming staff. Required Qualifications Previous experience working with children or adolescents is required. Previous experience in a group home, residential treatment, behavioral health, foster care, or similar setting is strongly preferred. High school diploma or GED preferred/required according to agency and program requirements. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be dependable and able to work the assigned shift. Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to remain calm and professional during challenging situations. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions. Must pass required background checks and employment screenings. Must complete all required agency and regulatory training. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained as required. Medication administration training is preferred or must be completed if required for the position. Must have reliable transportation if transportation of residents or work-related travel is required. Physical Requirements The DSP must be able to: Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit for extended periods. Assist children with daily activities when necessary. Respond quickly to emergencies. Safely perform duties associated with maintaining a residential environment. Handle the physical and emotional demands of working with children who may display challenging behaviors.
