• The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at SEARCH Day Program's residential Group Home provides compassionate, person-centered care to adults with developmental disabilities.

The DSP is responsible for supporting individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting independence, and ensuring a safe, nurturing, and empowering home environment. This role includes transporting residents to and from their Adult Day Program, maintaining a clean and organized home, following agency policies and procedures, implementing individualized support plans (ISPs), and documenting services provided.

Key Responsibilities:

Transport residents to and from their adult day program safely and promptly using agency vehicles. Ensure timely pick-up and drop-off, adhering to the day program's schedule. Assist individuals with boarding, securing seat belts, and accommodating mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers. Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns. Ensure participant safety and provide supervision during transportation. Maintain accurate transportation logs and mileage records. Assist residents with all activities of daily living (ADLs), including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, showering, and toileting. Support individuals with meal preparation, serving, and feeding assistance as needed, while promoting choice and independence. Promote and encourage participation in recreational and social activities, both in the home and in the community. Accompany and support residents during outings, appointments, and recreational activities. Assist with mobility needs, including lifting, transferring, and using adaptive equipment. Ensure the group home is clean, organized, and safe by performing routine housekeeping tasks. Assist residents with daily chores, including laundry, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces. Clean and disinfect common areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen spaces regularly. Ensure proper storage and organization of household supplies and participant belongings. Maintain a safe and hygienic environment by promptly addressing spills, clutter, or safety hazards. Administer medications as prescribed, following proper medication administration protocols and documentation procedures. Monitor residents' health and report any changes or concerns to the group home manager and follow agency documentation procedures. Assist with basic health care needs, including following prescribed treatment plans and providing first aid when necessary. Ensure adherence to all safety and emergency protocols. Accurately document daily services, activities, and incidents using the Therap system, including transportation logs, progress notes, medication administration records (MARs), and behavior tracking. Report any incidents to the program manager immediately and follow Daniels Law and Stephen Komminos Law if applicable. Participate in performance evaluations. Maintain clear, professional communication with colleagues, supervisors, and family members. Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and individual support plan updates. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations. Implement Individualized Support Plans (ISPs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) in alignment with each resident's goals and needs. Encourage skill-building, personal choice, and independence through structured support and positive reinforcement. Foster a nurturing and respectful environment that promotes dignity and self-worth. Support residents in developing and maintaining independent living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and money management. Follow all agency policies and procedures related to resident care, safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct. Adhere to New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations and SEARCH Day Program standards. Ensure compliance with HIPAA guidelines, maintaining strict confidentiality of participant information. Implement emergency protocols in accordance with agency policy, report, document and record incidents within the Therap system. (GER's, T-Logs, UIR'S) Participate in regular training and professional development to remain current on agency practices and best standards of care. Work collaboratively with fellow DSPs, group home managers, and agency leadership. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings. Provide support during emergency situations, including responding to behavioral incidents and implementing crisis intervention strategies when necessary. Cooperate fully with the agency and any department staff in any inspections, inquiries and investigations. Comply with the requirements for checks of criminal background, central registry, child abuse and drug testing. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the group home.

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma, GED and or 2-year minimum relevant prior experience. Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential or group home setting is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

Valid New Jersey driver's license with a clean driving record. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Medication Administration certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Skills:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to follow detailed individualized support plans, safety protocols, and agency policies and procedures. Basic computer skills for documentation purposes. Compassionate, patient, and reliable with a commitment to person-centered care. Ability to maintain a clean and organized home environment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to assist participants with mobility needs including lifting 45+ pounds, running, transferring, and positioning individuals safely. Comfortable driving agency vehicles and assisting individuals with transportation. Capability to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.

Days:

Flexible, including weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings, overnights and holidays.

Hours:

Vary based on the needs of the group home schedule.

Transportation:

Includes driving residents to and from their day program in the morning and afternoon and transporting them to appointments, community activities, and outings as needed.
