Flexible schedule A family is currently seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Self-Directed Employee (SDE) to provide support for two young men in their home through self-direction services. This is an excellent opportunity for students or individuals pursuing careers in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, special education, or other healthcare-related fields who are looking for meaningful hands-on experience in a rewarding and supportive environment. About the Individuals The individuals receiving support are young men with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. They are nonverbal but alert, interactive, and each have unique personalities. They thrive with patient, caring support and enjoy engaging with those around them. They live in a fully accessible home equipped with supportive equipment including a lift and Hoyer system. Employees will be trained to support both individuals; however, you will only be responsible for working with one individual at a time during scheduled shifts. Responsibilities Assisting with personal care needs Supporting transfers using assistive equipment (no heavy lifting required) Positioning and mobility support Assisting with dressing and grooming Showering and toileting assistance Providing companionship and meaningful engagement Supporting daily routines and activities Assisting with communication and social interaction What We're Looking For Caring, dependable, and patient Comfortable providing hands-on support Strong communication and observation skills Reliable transportation required Experience preferred but not required—we will train the right candidate Bonus Experience This position offers valuable experience with: Complex care support Adaptive equipment Medication routines G-tube care TPN exposure Specialized communication approaches This is a unique opportunity to work directly with a family through New Jersey's self-direction services and make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable healthcare experience.
