Core duties include helping clients complete basic housekeeping tasks, transporting clients to appointments and other social outings, and keeping clients safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment. Direct Support Professionals work with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities by supporting behavior plans, teaching self-care skills, preparing meals, and assisting with laundry.

Additional duties include:
