HKS serves the New York City/Long Island area from its new headquarters in dynamic downtown Brooklyn and the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults of Sands Point, New York, which has a network of regional offices that extends HKS' reach across the United States. We currently have an exciting part time career opportunity available to join the HKS team as a part-time Direct Support Professional in our Residential program at our Wantagh location.

Tuesday
  • Thursday, 3:00 PM
  • 11:00 PM Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 AM
  • 03:00 PM Saturday & Sunday, 3:00 PM
  • 11:00 PM SUMMARY The goal of the Direct Support Professional is to empower and direct our individuals in the Residence program, assist with record keeping, and perform duties necessary for the overall care and well-being of our individuals in this program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following: Supervise and positively interact with the individuals following all habilitation plans. Work with individuals on their daily living skills. Provide individuals with community integration opportunities. Direct individuals in their personal routine; give individuals positive reinforcement as appropriate. Maintain complete and accurate daily records and communication logs Maintain the order, safety, and cleanliness of the classroom including the outdoor areas. Attend staff meetings and/or trainings that are required. Provide medical oversight including medication administration under the supervision of the nursing staff. Transport individuals to a day program (to and from) Interact with parents and professionals from outside Agencies. Other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED equivalent Experience working with the developmentally disabled
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Valid NYS Driver's License (Required) AMAP Certification (Preferred) CPR Certification (Preferred) SCIP-R Certification (Preferred)
PAY RANGE
