Department of Residential Services, Bethlehem, PA Reports To :
Program Coordinator and Group Home/Apartment Manager Primary Function :
Responsible for the supervision and quality care to all clients in the residential program. Direct care staff is to provide care and contact with the clients as part of a coordinated effort to achieve the goals developed for each client.
Requirements :
Must be 18 years old or older 1-year experience in health services field preferred Ability to work autonomously Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to clients and internal & external customers Must have a valid NJ/PA Driver's License with a clean record. Must be able to drive UI handicapped accessible van. The overnight staff must drive clients into Day Program by 8:30 a.m. every morning. 3-11 Staff is responsible for picking up clients from day program and bringing them home every day. Every shift in every house or apartment must have at least one person on shift that is/has a current First Aid/CPR certification. • All direct care staff are to obtain First Aid/CPR. A competency examination and training program will be taken on the following subject areas: Confidentiality. Consumer control and the independent living philosophy. Instrumental activities of daily living. Recognizing changes in the consumer that need to be addressed. Basic infection control. Universal precautions. Handling of Emergencies. Documentation. Recognizing and reporting abuse or neglect. Dealing with difficult behaviors. A competency examination for a direct care worker who will provide personal care will address the following additional subject areas: Bathing, shaving, grooming and dressing. Hair, skin and mouth care. Assistance with ambulation and transferring. Meal preparation and feeding, Toileting. Assistance with self-administered medications. • Must work with rehabilitation patients with various disabilities including but not limited to Brain Injury, CVA, General Rehab, Acute/Chronic Neuro. Employee integrates knowledge of patient/family developmental needs in the planning and delivery of patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities :
• Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADL's), medication management, personal hygiene and health, general housekeeping skills and food preparation. Provide directions, guidance and supervision to clients. Assist in implementation of the I.S.P. Participate/Attend monthly staff meetings. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Cooperate effectively with staff clients, families and other members of the delivery systems. Basic math skills. Plan, organize and use time efficiently and effectively. Each employee must obtain a complete physical and Mantoux test prior to working with the residents in the group home setting. Maintain client confidentiality at all times. Serve as an active member of the IDT by participating in team meetings and supporting client treatment plan. Assist with medication after successful completion of training on medication management. Ensure client safety by following all rules and regulations in accordance with Universal's policy and procedures manual. Fulfill all shift responsibilities as outlined. Each shift is responsible for the completion of the Medication Book, Daily Log, Daily Training Records and Staff Communication Book. Maintain cleanliness of group home and/or apartment. Remain awake for entire shift (includes overnight staff). Ability to work in a demanding situation, changing focus of work due to changing priorities. Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain responsibility for the work performed. Ability to work flexible hours based on the needs of the group home. All staff must cooperate with any OLTL personnel including the office of licensing and any of all investigations.
Physical Demands :
On a daily basis, almost constant physical and other interaction with brain injured individuals. On a daily basis, approximately 40% of time spent standing, 40% walking, and 20% sitting. Occasionally required to lift 150 pounds, carry 40 pounds and push 150 pounds. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach. • Must be able to speak, hear and see. Depth perception is required. Working Conditions • Involves regular interaction with a wide variety of unpredictable and often inappropriate conduct and comments by brain-injured individuals
