Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and support to individuals with diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and age-related conditions. Responsibilities Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and mobility support using manual handling techniques such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods. Monitor residents' health by taking vital signs, observing patient conditions, and reporting changes to healthcare professionals promptly. Administer medications following care plans and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality. Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal consumption, ensuring dietary restrictions and preferences are respected. Support residents during community outings or transportation using personal transportation assistance to promote engagement and independence. Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing regular cleaning duties and adhering to infection control standards. Document care activities accurately in resident records, including progress notes, medication administration logs, and incident reports. Provide emotional support through active listening, compassionate communication, and fostering a respectful atmosphere that upholds residents' rights. Participate in ongoing training related to dementia care, Alzheimer's care, hospice care, autism spectrum support, and other specialized areas of patient care. Experience Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to observe patients carefully through patient observation techniques and monitor vital signs effectively. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dementia or memory care needs is desirable. Knowledge of medication administration procedures and familiarity with care plans tailored for diverse health conditions. Skills in manual handling equipment such as Hoyer lifts or patient transfer methods to ensure safe mobility assistance. Understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality of protected health information (PHI). Ability to perform first aid and CPR confidently in emergency situations; certification is a plus but not mandatory upon hire. Experience providing home & community care services that promote independence while ensuring safety in various settings.
