PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANT
  • Non-Certified Aide

  • Jordan River Health Campus Department Assisted Living / Resident Services Reports To Assisted Living Director, Unit Manager, Charge Nurse, or Designee FLSA Status Non-Exempt Employment Status Full-Time, Part-Time, or PRN, as assigned Position Summary The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides compassionate, resident-centered assistance with daily routines and personal care.
The PCA promotes each resident's dignity, privacy, safety, comfort, and independence while working under the direction of designated community leadership and licensed nursing staff, as applicable. This is a non-certified aide position and does not require Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. The PCA may perform only those duties allowed by law, community policy, the resident's service or care plan, and the employee's documented training and competency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Resident Assistance and Personal Care
  • Assist residents with routine activities of daily living, including dressing, grooming, bathing, personal hygiene, toileting, and continence care, as assigned and permitted.
  • Provide mobility, ambulation, transfer, and repositioning assistance only in accordance with the resident's plan, community procedures, and the PCA's training and competency.
  • Assist with meals and hydration, including escorting residents to dining areas, setting up meals, and providing non-clinical dining assistance as assigned.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to resident call systems and requests for assistance.
  • Encourage residents to perform tasks independently to the fullest extent possible while providing appropriate support.
  • Protect resident dignity, privacy, preferences, and personal property at all times. Observation, Communication, and Documentation
  • Observe residents and promptly report changes in physical condition, behavior, mood, cognition, appetite, mobility, or daily functioning to licensed nursing staff or the supervisor.
  • Report accidents, injuries, falls, suspected abuse or neglect, unsafe conditions, and unusual incidents immediately in accordance with policy.
  • Complete assigned records, checklists, and documentation accurately, legibly, and on time.
  • Maintain respectful, professional communication with residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and other departments. Resident Engagement and Environmental Support
  • Provide companionship, reassurance, and emotional support while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Encourage and assist residents with participation in activities, programs, meals, and social events.
  • Maintain clean, orderly, and safe resident living areas; perform light housekeeping and linen tasks as assigned.
  • Identify and report environmental or equipment concerns that may affect resident or employee safety. Safety, Infection Prevention, and Compliance
  • Follow infection prevention practices, hand hygiene requirements, standard precautions, and personal protective equipment procedures.
  • Follow emergency, fire, severe weather, evacuation, and resident safety procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard resident information in accordance with HIPAA and community policy.
  • Attend required orientation, in-service education, meetings, and competency training.
  • Follow all Jordan River policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and resident rights requirements. Qualifications Required
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background screening, registry checks, orientation, and training.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate instructions in English sufficiently to perform assigned duties safely.
  • Compassion, patience, dependability, sound judgment, and a service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and treat others with dignity and respect. Preferred
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous caregiving, senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or customer service experience.
  • Experience supporting older adults or individuals with disabilities.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification. Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements associated with resident assistance.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, and to use appropriate equipment or team assistance as required by policy.
  • Ability to assist residents safely with mobility and personal care based on training, assessed needs, and the resident's plan.
  • Ability to respond promptly in emergency situations and work scheduled weekends, evenings, nights, holidays, or overtime as needed.
  • Work may involve exposure to bodily fluids, infectious conditions, cleaning products, and other conditions common to a senior living or healthcare environment. Performance Expectations

  • Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality and follow call-in procedures.
  • Accept direction, seek assistance when a task is outside training or authority, and never perform unauthorized clinical duties.
