Job Description

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role provides support for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Their main duties include skill building and support in areas of personal care, socialization, community integration, employment, health and safety, and other adaptive living skills. We are seeking individuals for our Salem, Christiansburg & Fairlawn locations!

Position Requirements:

High School diploma. Medication Certificate preferred but not required. CPR preferred but not required Valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Ability to pass criminal background and DSS registry check. Complete required trainings as assigned.

Job Tasks:

Assist supervisor as needed regarding required aspects of service delivery including, but not limited to, development and implementation of individual service plans, training staff on ISPs, writing person-centered reviews of services, and ensure services are delivered per the approved plans and schedules. Complete Medication Administration to participants attending group day support. Effectively intervene in crises and emergencies, to include administration of first aid, following agency policies and procedures and seeking consultation from supervisor and other resources as appropriate. Be knowledgeable of and provide support for medical needs while with the individual, which includes helping the individual explain their symptoms when sick and to understand and follow doctor's orders while providing care for the individual in service. Responsible for accurate, informative documentation reflecting the services and supports delivered to the individuals served. Complete daily documentation of progress notes, medication administration, time sheets, and other reports in an accurate, timely, and professional manner. Be knowledgeable of and provide support for medical needs while with the individual, which includes helping the individual explain their symptoms when sick and to understand and follow doctor's orders while providing care for the individual in service. Ensure all required trainings are completed in compliance with agency policy, including specialty training as appropriate to the individuals being served. Responsible to maintain current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED and other trainings as required or assigned. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to actively participate in daily activities for the individuals served. Attend scheduled meetings and provide information that informs the development of a person-centered service plan to support individuals served in the community. Maintain data collection methods and update supervisor regularly regarding progress. As required, transport individuals using agency vehicles. Follow all guidelines as they relate to participant rights as outlined by HCBS. Foster community inclusion Consistently utilize client-centered practices based on assent Be free from using any seclusion or restraint.
