Description Join Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma, AL, a 175-bed, Joint Commission-accredited community hospital that serves as a critical healthcare hub in the region. Vaughan delivers a full complement of hospital services, including emergency care, to the Black Belt area of southern Alabama. Job Summary The Lab Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of the clinical laboratory by coordinating workflow, maintaining records, and ensuring timely processing of specimens and test results. The role serves as a liaison between laboratory staff, clinical teams, and external vendors or reference labs. The Lab Coordinator assists with quality control, inventory, scheduling, and compliance with regulatory standards to support the safe and accurate delivery of laboratory services. Essential Functions Coordinates specimen collection, labeling, processing, and routing in accordance with established protocols. Assists with test ordering, result reporting, and communication with nursing, physicians, and external labs. Maintains laboratory logs, temperature records, and documentation for quality and compliance purposes. Supports laboratory inventory by ordering supplies, tracking usage, and maintaining stock levels. Monitors instrument maintenance schedules and service requests. Assists with preparation for regulatory surveys and inspections (e.g., CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission). Trains and orients new lab support staff in workflows and procedures. Participates in quality assurance activities and process improvement initiatives. Ensures laboratory policies, procedures, and safety practices are followed. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Familiarity with laboratory practices, safety procedures, and test workflows. Understanding of medical terminology and laboratory information systems (LIS). Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination. Ability to organize, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented with strong recordkeeping and computer skills. Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technician program preferred. Licenses/Certifications Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent preferred. Experience Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting required. Experience in laboratory operations, quality tracking, or administrative coordination preferred.
