Position Summary The role of the Laboratory Assistant reports to the Laboratory Supervisor or Director of Laboratory. This position is responsible for providing support for Medical Laboratory Technicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists and performs duties under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Essential Position Responsibilities Represents the laboratory as a model of the behavioral standards of the institution; supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization; promotes a respectful work environment. Verifies accuracy of patient and specimen information 100% of the time. Examines specimens for adequacy and appropriateness. Properly labels specimens and prepares aliquots with 100% positive patient/specimen identification. Receives and processes specimens (delivers, centrifuges, aliquots, etc) quickly to ensure established turn-around-time goals are met. Assists with inquiries pertaining to specimen requirements, specimen stability, and test turn-around-times. Assists with phlebotomy as needed. Assists with send out specimen processing. Assist point of care team as needed. Maintaining a clean working environment and sanitizing benchtops and equipment.
