Laboratory Specimen Receiving/ Accessioning

JOB STATUS

FULL-TIME Job Summary:

The Laboratory Specimen Receiver is responsible for a broad range of duties and responsibilities that are critical to the efficiency and accuracy of processing pathology cases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives specimens from all sources and correlates test ordering information with Laboratory Interface System or requisitions. Orders and accessions pathology specimens in the Laboratory Interface System. Prepares and sends ancillary tests. Receives clinician, pathologist, laboratory requests via fax. Assists with resolving suboptimal specimens. Files requisitions, blocks, and slides Troubleshoots accessioning and processing issues. Clean the laboratory work spaces and maintain lab equipment. Follows all biohazard/chemical hygiene/safety procedures as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Degree/GED, or equivalent Microsoft Office skills Laboratory experience prefer General laboratory procedure/technique knowledge Strong Problem solving and critical thinking skills Ability to follow verbal and written directions Must Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Generally, not more than 50lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and /or carrying of objects
