ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

JOB FUNCTIONS

Perform waived, moderate

•and high-complexity clinical laboratory testing as a generalist in assigned areas, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, immunology/serology, microbiology, and other testing for which training and competency have been documented. Receive, verify, accession, process, analyze, and report patient specimens according to established procedures; routine patient phlebotomy is not a function of this position. Evaluate specimen integrity and acceptability, identify pre-analytical problems, and follow established procedures for rejected, compromised, or questionable specimens. Review, verify, document, and release patient results within authorized scope; recognize critical or unusual results and follow required notification and escalation procedures. Perform and evaluate quality control, calibrations, proficiency testing, correlations, and other quality activities; document and assist with corrective action when results are unacceptable. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment; perform required preventive maintenance and document service or corrective action. Use the Laboratory Information System (LIS), instrument software, and other approved systems accurately for orders, results, documentation, and laboratory workflow. Maintain reagents, supplies, inventory, and work areas; follow manufacturer instructions, stability requirements, storage conditions, and established laboratory procedures. Prioritize STAT and routine testing, maintain accuracy during high-volume periods, communicate delays or problems promptly, and support timely turnaround of patient results. Assist with orientation and training of new employees after appropriate training and competency have been established; contribute to a respectful, collaborative team environment. Comply with Exacta Laboratory Systems policies and procedures and applicable CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, manufacturer, safety, and quality requirements. Other duties as assigned within the employee's training, competency, and authorized scope.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a clinical laboratory with potential exposure to blood and body fluids, contagious disease, infectious waste, chemicals, caustics, fumes, and airborne particles. Appropriate PPE is provided and required. The position requires the ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and responding to STAT and critical testing needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited MLT educational program that meets applicable CLIA personnel qualification requirements. National certification appropriate to the position (MLT(ASCP) or equivalent) is preferred at hire and must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained as required thereafter. Prior clinical laboratory experience is preferred; generalist experience is desirable.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to work independently within established policies and procedures and make appropriate technical decisions when necessary. Must be able to work assigned shifts based on operational needs, which may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, or alternate schedules. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with coworkers, leadership, clients, and healthcare personnel. Ability to maintain accuracy, attention to detail, and appropriate documentation in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, accept feedback, support changing priorities, and follow through on assigned responsibilities. Working knowledge of laboratory quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, basic computer applications, and LIS workflows. Ability to distinguish color and interpret visual instrument, specimen, microscopic, and quality-control indicators as required by assigned testing. This is a safety-sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment. Completion of HIPAA, OSHA/bloodborne pathogens, safety, compliance, and role-specific training within required timeframes. Consent to background screening, drug/alcohol screening, and other employment requirements in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None. This position may assist with training and orientation but does not have supervisory authority.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Must be mobile and able to stand, sit, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and handle laboratory objects, specimens, and equipment as required. Must possess sight and hearing, or use appropriate aids, sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position safely and accurately. Must possess the manual dexterity necessary to operate laboratory instruments, computers, pipettes, and other laboratory equipment. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional demands of the position and maintain professional judgment during high-volume or urgent situations. Must be able to engage professionally with coworkers, clients, and healthcare personnel and function effectively in a variety of work situations.

Employees must comply with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, safety, quality, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Violations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Training and Development:

New hires will receive orientation on company policies, safety protocols, laboratory procedures, and role-specific duties. Employees must successfully complete required training and competency assessments before performing testing independently and must maintain ongoing competency as required by regulation and company policy.
