Job Title:
Laboratory Assistant Job Description A Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in a high-volume production-based environment, performing essential tasks that contribute to clinical lab science. Responsibilities Receive and sort clinical lab specimens. Prepare specimens for testing and analysis. Perform scanning and data entry of specimen and patient information. Sort specimens into their appropriate departments or for pipetting. Assist with loading and unloading specimens on the pipetting platform, including capping and uncapping samples, labeling aliquot tubes, addressing errors, and sorting aliquots. Ensure all lab equipment is functioning properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance. Return specimens to appropriate locations. Perform discard and relocation of specimen racks. Replenish test bench supplies as needed. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety requirements as well as regulatory guidelines. Document all quality assurance activities, including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance. Follow any other job-related instructions and perform additional duties as requested by department management. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. Flexibility to work overtime as needed. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Must pass a standardized color blindness test. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous medical/lab or production experience preferred. Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in specimen information or labeling. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment with strict turnaround times. Basic proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and ability to learn new software quickly. Effective communication skills for collaborating with technologists, supervisors, and other lab staff. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow during peak specimen intake periods. Familiarity with biosafety practices and proper handling of potentially infectious materials. Solid problem-solving skills to assist with resolving specimen issues, instrument flags, or workflow bottlenecks. Work Environment This role is set in a fast-paced production environment with established turnaround times. Employees will handle biological specimens and may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Agoura Hills, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
